Sap, Syrup & Sugar, Grades K-12
Tuesdays through Fridays, March and early April
Relevant to learning standards in Math, Science and Technology

This program traces the history and science of maple sugaring from traditional Native American, pioneer Euro-American and present-day commercial production perspectives. Students hike to the sugarbush, learn why maple trees make sap, witness a 19th-century sugaring demonstration, talk with a modern-day syrup maker and taste the final product.

Wildlife of the Genesee Country, Grades 4-12
Year Round
Relevant to learning standards in Math, Science and Technology; Social Studies

Your students will learn about the animals native to the Genesee Country and how and why wildlife populations changed with the advent of Euro-American settlement. This history-based nature program provides opportunities to examine animal skulls, bones and skins as well as live specimens. A guided nature walk to look for signs of past land use and present-day wildlife is included.

ArtVentures
ArtVentures is a modular program designed to integrate classroom learning with an enriching museum field experience. It can be customized to suit your students' particular needs and interests. Choose the ArtVentures Movable Museum Program, and a museum educator will come to your classroom to introduce the basics of creating and appreciating art with a focus on wildlife. Then schedule a gallery visit where the learning continues as students examine and analyze the works of some of the world's finest wildlife artists. Add a trek at the nature center with time allotted for students to undertake quiet observation to create their own wildlife sketchbooks. You may then choose to have students create more elaborate works of wildlife art once they have returned to your classroom. Please call for more information, fee structure and available dates.
