Self-Guided Tours of the Historic Village
Go at your own pace. Spend time at homes, crafts, trades and businesses that are most relevant to your curriculum plans and the learning standards you wish to address. Use your Educators' Preview Pass for a free advance visit, and then custom-design a tour where your students will learn about all aspects of 19th-century American life through hands-on/minds-on experiences and by interacting with engaging interpreters throughout the village.

Enrichment Options
Enhance your field trip by scheduling one or more half-hour programs in the art gallery, nature center or historic village with a specially trained museum educator. Enrichment options target specific learning standards and are geared to small groups. Space is limited, so please call early to make your reservation.

Interdisciplinary Programs
Our interdisciplinary programs are designed specifically to link social studies with English language arts, math, science, technology and art. A history or science experience can provide your students with topics for journaling. They can come to understand aspects of biology and environmental science by decoding a wildlife painting, or they can gain insight into nutrition, ethnicity, cultural continuity and resource use by participating in our spring maple-sugaring program. Each program provides rich opportunities for extending traditional learning.

Guided Nature Treks
You and your students can join our naturalists for a learner-centered expedition at the Genesee Country Nature Center. Our age-appropriate treks encourage students to search for plants and animals, explore various terrestrial and aquatic habitats, discover geological phenomena and more. Treks may be scheduled to last from 1 to 1 ½ hours to accommodate your particular schedule.

Outdoor Science Programs
Use our outdoor science programs for more in-depth treatments of selected science topics. Through firsthand experience and plenty of opportunities for individual discovery, students can learn about everything from insects and reptiles to flowering plants and woodland ecology. Most programs consist of a brief indoor session partnered with a corresponding field experience. Programs generally last two hours.

Movable Museum Programs
Bring the museum to your classroom! Museum educators in period clothing bring touchable, usable objects to your classroom in connection with standards-relevant themed programs specially designed to fit with your curriculum. All programs are designed for small, class-sized groups and emphasize interactivity. Each lasts 45-60 minutes and provides an excellent introduction to the museum and the 19th century. Movable Museum Programs are ideal pre-visit activities.
