Canadian naturalist and artist Robert Bateman has earned international recognition for his masterful and realistic renderings of nature and wildlife. Bateman is also deeply committed to preservation of our cultural heritage and frequently portrays historic structures in his work. In Shelter, a print based on an 1987 painting, Bateman celebrates the ubiquitous barn, writing that “The barn is a wonderful part of man’s architectural heritage. Through many centuries, it has evolved almost as a living, breathing thing.” Donated by the Genesee Country Village & Museum.
