Flint Hill Folk
The Flint Hill Folk perform music of the 19th century in costume, using
restored antique instruments. They provide a truly enjoyable 19th-century
atmosphere by bringing the sounds of a bygone era to life at concerts,
dances, special events and private functions.
Village trolley tours
Have the museum’s motorized trolley available to transport your
guests through the historic village. Add a knowledgeable, costumed interpreter
to learn about the historic buildings in the village.
Moveable Museum
A costumed educator will bring a 19th-century history component to your
event, and address topics ranging from fashion to basket making to tinsmithing.
Wagon rides
Travel the museum grounds on a horse-drawn wagon ride, just like villagers
did in the 19th-century. Add a costumed interpreter to make your tour
a guided one.
Dinner with village resident
Enjoy dinner with a prominent resident of our historic village: enjoy
lively conversations around current events and 19th-century business dealings.
Take a guided after-dinner candlelight stroll through the village with
a costumed guide.
Try Your Hand
Get creative! Work alongside a museum crafts or tradesperson making everyday
objects such as whisk brooms, lavender sachets, punched tin objects and
woven mats. At the end of the session, guests take home the object they
were working on, along with a deeper understanding of 19th-century American
life.
Base ball
The crack of the bat, the shouts from the crowd, the umpire’s cry
of striker to the line” can be heard as your party tries its hand
at a 19th century baseball game. Complete with equipment, umpire and a
reader of the rules, your group can become part of the game. Follow your
game with a variety of food options at the Victorian Garden Pavilion or
other sites.
Make yourself at home
Come into our 19th-century homes and talk with village interpreters. The
museum can be all yours after it closes to the public. We’ll be
happy to arrange a private tour at any of these unique settings:
- John L. Wehle Art Gallery
- Carriage Museum
- Historic village building (or combination of buildings)
- Heirloom gardens
Games
Add enjoyment to your event for both adults and children with 19th-century
games. Relax and have some fun playing with simple (but not easy) wooden
toys. Practice coordination using a cup and ball, have fun with a whimmy
diddle or participate in a game of graces.
