Participants will explore the basic principles and techniques of making stone tools. Selection of appropriate materials such as flint, chert and obsidian will be addressed. Topics will include a discussion of the various tools needed to fashion stone into useful items like spear points, arrowheads, knives and scrapers. Participants will have hands-on instruction in percussion and pressure flaking techniques to produce their own tool. Quality chert is provided. Hammer stones, antler billets, pressure flakers, leather pads and safety glasses are available for students to use or attendees may bring their own. Participants shouldn't wear shorts or open-toed shoes. Limited to 6 participants ages 16-adult.
