Selection of appropriate materials, such as flint, chert and obsidian will be addressed. Topics will include a discussion of the various tools needed to fashion stone into useful items like spear points, arrowheads, knives and scrapers. Participants will have hands-on instruction in percussion and pressure flaking techniques to produce their own tool. Quality chert is provided. Hammer stones, antler billets, pressure flakers, leather pads and safety glasses are available, or participants may bring their own.
This class is limited to a max of six participants, ages 16 and up.
